Clarity
Design should be clear and easy to understand. A user should be able to quickly and easily see what you’re trying to do.
Simplicity
Design should be simple and uncluttered. There should be no unnecessary elements or distractions.
Purpose
Design should have a clear purpose. It should work to solve a problem or meet a need.
Impact
Design should have a positive impact on the user. It should make someone’s life easier or more enjoyable.
While none of this as objective as one may hope it would be, they are nonetheless guide stones that are helpful to follow whenever encountering design problems in the real world.
